SUMMARY

Prior to the start of the series, aspiring chef Bill fell in love with Paula Cardwell. They became engaged, but her affair with Stan Lincoln — and ensuing pregnancy — nearly destroyed their relationship. Bill and Paula reunited, and she gave up Stan’s child for adoption. After Bill and Paula married, they had four children together: Tim, Molly, Sarah, and Jason. The existence of Paula’s oldest son was kept a secret for several decades.

After spending years working in restaurant kitchens, Bill was able to open his own restaurant. The Fisherman’s Pier, a cozy spot located on Pier 22, became a mainstay of King’s Bay life. When their four children were adults, it came out that Paula had given a child up for adoption — and that child turned out to be Ryan Moriani, who’d been raised by mobster Nick Moriani. Having this painful secret exposed again put a wedge in Bill and Paula’s marriage, especially when Ryan and Tim feuded over Claire Robbins. Eventually, Bill and Paula resolved their differences and reunited, stronger than ever.

When his eatery was destroyed in an explosion engineered by Nick Moriani, Bill opened a new restaurant away from the waterfront and named it Harbor Boulevard.

In 2015, Bill came upon Philip Ragan — who, unbeknownst to everyone, was the feared Footprint Killer — trying to poison Bill and Paula’s granddaughter, Tori. Bill saved Tori, only to be strangled to death himself. Family and friends mourned his tragic murder.
