SUMMARY
Don and Helen happily raised their daughter, figure skater Courtney, together, but when her athletic and romantic rival, Shannon Parish, caused Don to fall from a ladder, he suffered a severe head injury. This left him susceptible to the scheming of his ex-wife, Sally Marshall, who came to town and tried to win him back. Don even ran off to Paris with Sally, but eventually he reunited with Helen. He also took in Sally’s son, Alex (once believed to be Don’s), a close relationship that continues into the present.
Don and Helen were devastated when, several years later, Shannon murdered Courtney right after Courtney’s wedding to Jason Fisher. Helen fought Jason for custody of his and Courtney’s young daughter, Sophie, but her plotting with attorney Eric Westin left Don aghast. Helen nearly divorced him to spare him the legal percussions of her actions, but Jason showed mercy, and Helen received probation and was allowed to continue seeing Sophie.
Don continues to stand by his bold, brash wife even when she gets herself into hot water — such as when she was wrongly arrested (twice) on suspicion of being the Footprint Killer or when she interrupted Jason’s wedding to Natalie Bishop to expose the truth about the paternity of Natalie’s son, Peter. At King’s Bay’s first Pride parade, Don was a good enough sport to fill in at the last minute for a drag queen who’d fallen ill.
