SUMMARY
Helen was very encouraging of her daughter’s relationship with fellow pairs skater Jason Fisher. When Don suffered a head injury following an attack by Shannon Parish, his ex-wife, Sally Marshall, came to town and set her sights on winning him back. Due to his head injury, Don ran off to Paris with Sally, and Helen feared her marriage was ending. However, the couple reunited, and Don received proper treatment.
The Chases were devastated when Courtney was murdered by Shannon just after marrying Jason. Helen became convinced that widowed Jason was unfit to care for his and Courtney’s young daughter, Sophie, and pursued custody. Her lawyer, Eric Westin, concocted a fake kidnapping to make Jason appear unfit to the court, but the plan backfired when the kidnapper demanded a real ransom from Helen and Eric. Helen offered to divorce Don so that he would still be able to see their granddaughter, but Jason eventually showed mercy and forgiveness, and Helen received probation.
Later, Helen was arrested (twice) on suspicion of being the Footprint Killer, but her name was cleared after an additional murder was committed while she was in police custody. She was critical of Jason’s relationship with scheming Natalie Bishop and, at Jason and Natalie’s wedding, helped expose the fact that Natalie’s son, Peter, had not been fathered by Jason. Helen also developed a friendship with young adult Tori Gray, whom she considered a sort of surrogate granddaughter.
