SUMMARY

When Diane Bishop, cohost of KBAY’s morning show, had her parents visit the station to attend one of her broadcasts, she was grateful for the help of production assistant Jaq. She hoped to set up Jaq — who identifies as gender non-binary — with her daughter, Samantha, as a means of keeping Sam away from her ex, Tempest Banks. Diane and Jaq conspired for Jaq and Sam to meet with Samantha realizing her mother was behind it. Samantha and Jaq had their first official date during King’s Bay’s Pride celebration, and although their relationship continued to develop, both Diane and Jaq were concerned about Sam’s renewed bond with Tempest. Jaq was upset to find Samantha and Tempest kissing but said nothing.

Jaq became roommates with Finn Campbell, living in the Brooks family’s former home. After Jaq began receiving threatening letters, Samantha moved in with them in hopes of offering protection. Jaq and Samantha said “I love you” to one another, and the threats continued. On the night of Travis and Rosie’s wedding, Jaq returned home to find another letter. A yellow hair clip left at the scene matched one that Tempest had recently been wearing. Diane realized that Jaq was sending the letters to themself and framing Tempest, but when she confronted them, Jaq produced an audio recording of Diane conspiring to keep Samantha and Tempest apart. They said they’d play it for Sam if Diane exposed them, so Diane kept mum. However, after Tempest was arrested for sending the threats, Diane decided to sacrifice herself. She bailed Tempest out and revealed the truth about Jaq’s plot. Tempest’s name was cleared, and Samantha broke up with Jaq, who was desperate to reunite despite facing legal trouble over the letters. When a car accident landed Sam in a coma, Jaq wanted to stay by her side, but Diane arranged for Jaq to receive a job offer in Portland and convinced them that they should take the job. Jaq realized that Diane was right and, accepting that they’d never reunite with Samantha, left town to start anew.
