SUMMARY

Bill and Paula Fisher’s youngest child, Jason, grew up as a competitive pairs figure skater. As a teenager, he developed feelings for his skating partner, childhood friend Courtney Chase. When Courtney suffered an injury, however, Jason partnered with another skater, Shannon Parish. She became obsessed with Jason and, recognizing the mutual feelings between Jason and Courtney, had Courtney attacked to keep her off the ice longer. Eventually Shannon’s schemes were uncovered, and she was sentenced to time in a mental institution. Jason and Courtney not only resumed skating together — they admitted their feelings and began a romance.

They also set up their friends, Lauren Brooks and Alex Marshall. When Alex made a pass at him, Jason had to tell Alex that he was straight, but he found himself in an impossible position: not wanting to out Alex but also not wanting to see Lauren hurt. When the truth came out, Courtney broke up with Jason for having kept the secret for so long. He found a new skating partner, Kelsey Barker, and later grew closer to Lauren, whom he began dating. However, Lauren became drawn to Josh Taylor, and eventually, she and Jason decided to call off their relationship.

Jason and Courtney, who had mended fences, reunited to take their final pairs skating test together. Jason was shocked when he received word that Shannon had died — and willed her family’s fortune to him. He didn’t want to accept it but realized he could use the money to save the rink where he’d grown up skating. In the course of working together to renovate it into Edge of Winter Arena, Jason and Courtney became close again and slept together. When Courtney discovered she was pregnant, Jason admitted that he was in love with her again. But Shannon Parish wasn’t dead — she was back in King’s Bay with a new face and identity, that of Sabrina Gage, whom Jason had hired to work at the arena. Courtney gave birth to a daughter, Sophie. Sabrina became increasingly unhinged as her efforts to win Jason for herself failed. On Jason and Courtney’s wedding day, she had Sophie kidnapped, but Jason and Courtney rescued her. They were married in a beautiful ceremony — but, during the reception, Shannon brutally murdered Courtney and then jumped off the roof to her own death.

Widowed and devastated, Jason struggled to keep his life together. Courtney’s parents, Helen and Don Chase, expressed concern about his abilities as a parent and decided to pursue custody of Sophie. When Helen’s unscrupulous lawyer, Eric Westin, staged a kidnapping to make Jason appear unfit, the plan backfired and Sophie was again kidnapped for real. She was rescued and the truth came out; Jason retained custody of Sophie. After some time, he decided to allow the Chases back into his daughter’s life. He received support from his family and his best friend, Alex, who moved in with him to help out.

When he took on Bree Halston as a skating student, Jason clashed with her mother, Natalie Bishop. Eventually the sparring turned to attraction, and things turned romantic between them. Jason was again stricken by tragedy when his former coach and close friend, Sandy James, was murdered at the arena. His half-brother, Ryan, and father, Bill, also fell victim to the Footprint Killer, who turned out to be Philip Ragan. When Natalie became pregnant, she hid from Jason the fact that the baby also could have been fathered by his nephew, Spencer Ragan. She gave birth to a boy, whom she and Jason named Peter. As they planned their wedding, Natalie discovered that Spencer really was Peter’s father, and she became desperate to keep the secret. The truth was exposed during Jason and Natalie’s wedding, and he left her at the altar.

With a nasty custody battle looming, Natalie and Spencer shocked everyone by marrying. Jason caused tension in the Fisher family by plowing ahead with his custody suit. He and Alex were drugged by someone working for Loretta Ragan, causing Jason to be late for the hearing; his case was ultimately thrown out. He was determined to prove that he had been set up, and his rage boiled over when he punched Spencer in front of several witnesses — effectively ending his chances of custody for good. He made the painful decision that it would be best for himself and for Peter to leave the boy with his biological parents. As he attempted to move on with his life, Jason found himself attracted to the real Sabrina Gage (whose identity Shannon had stolen years earlier).
