SUMMARY

Samantha was the result of a one-night stand that occurred when Diane seduced an amnesiac Tim. Her birth in 1999 matured Diane (somewhat) and her mother had visitation rights, while Sam lived primarily with Tim, Claire, and Travis. After Tim’s “death,” Diane regained custody. Tim later returned to King’s Bay, very much alive, and even got together with Diane for a time.

As she grew up, Samantha showed herself to be something of an introvert, more academically focused than her brother and many of her peers. She and Claire’s foster daughter, Tempest Banks, were forced to drive at gunpoint by madman JD Robinson in 2010, but Samantha managed to steer them safely out of the traumatic experience. Samantha tutored Tempest for her GED exam, and the girls became friends — but Samantha was startled when Tempest kissed her. She was also thrown when it came out that her half-brother, Travis, had actually been switched as an infant with Spencer Ragan. Samantha remained close to Travis and was pleased when Spencer made an effort to spend time with her, but she was crushed to discover he’d been using her to hurt Travis. As time passed, however, she and Spencer also developed a relationship.

Samantha eventually admitted to having feelings for Tempest, as well, and she came out of the closet as they began dating. Her family was accepting… other than Diane, who was upset that Samantha was involved with Claire’s foster daughter. When Tempest’s negligent mother, Yvette Banks, showed up in King’s Bay pregnant, Samantha tried to support her girlfriend. Diane encouraged Alex Marshall and Trevor Brooks to adopt the baby. Yvette died from complications resulting from a car accident, but her baby boy survived. Overcome with grief, Tempest decided she wanted to raise the baby. Diane feared that Samantha would throw away her future to raise a baby at such a young age and pushed even harder for Alex and Trevor to adopt, even going so far as to track down the baby’s biological father so that he could choose. Tempest was horrified, as the man had abused her when she was younger. Alex and Trevor became baby Chase’s adoptive parents, and Tempest lashed out by exposing the fact that Diane had sexually assaulted Tim in order to conceive Samantha. The truth rocked the family. Samantha moved out of her mother’s home and also broke up with Tempest for being so vengeful.

In time, a repentant Diane rebuilt her relationship with her daughter. She also engineered a meeting between Sam and a production assistant at KBAY, Jaq Pearson, in hopes that Sam would not reunite with Tempest. Sam and Jaq hit it off and began dating, which upset Tempest, who still hoped for another chance. When Diane became clued in to a Bishop family mystery involving her father and a woman named Therese DeLuca, she confided in Samantha, who vowed to help her get to the bottom of it. Samantha eventually helped Diane discover that she was the biological daughter of Therese. Samantha moved in with Jaq after they began receiving threatening notes, but it turned out that Jaq was sending the notes themself to frame Tempest, who was arrested for the threats. Diane helped clear Tempest’s name. Samantha fell into a coma after a terrible car accident, and Tempest was by her side the entire time. Once Samantha recovered, the two reunited romantically.

*In 2007, Samantha’s age was accelerated for story purposes.
