SUMMARY

Rebellious Sarah grew up in the shadow of her overachieving sister, Molly. She decided to pursue a career in law enforcement and join King’s Bay’s police force, where she fell for the commander, Brent Taylor. However, when she realized that Brent and Molly also had feelings for each other, Sarah quickly maneuvered him into eloping. With her insecurities raging, she worked hard to keep her husband and sister apart — and, during a particularly low time, she impulsively slept with Matt Gray. When she discovered she was pregnant, Sarah tried to pass off the baby as Brent’s. She gave birth to a girl, named Victoria, but the truth soon came out, and Brent left her.

Sarah reeled when Molly and Brent began a relationship. However, she found herself growing closer to Matt as they co-parented. She helped him face the pain of his past and reunite with his estranged brother, Jake. An unstable coworker, Jennie Burkle, accused Matt of rape when he spurned her advances; after Matt’s innocence was proven, he and Sarah married. While Matt wanted to grow their family, Sarah was ambivalent, even when she became pregnant again. She tried to save her family from an explosion rigged by Nick Moriani and was injured by the blast. Matt had to make the painful decision to terminate the pregnancy to save Sarah’s life. She survived, but tensions between the spouses intensified as they separately grieved the loss.

Sarah traveled to the mountains of Central Washington to track down her half-brother, Ryan, and got lost in the snow. A dashing older man named Graham Colville saved her. Back in King’s Bay, Sarah accepted his dinner invitation, and her rocky marriage to Matt came to an end. Sarah helped Graham reunite with his biological son, Alex Marshall. She married Graham, though she continued to harbor feelings for Matt.

Graham grew increasingly angry about the connection Sarah shared with her ex-husband. Finally, he became unhinged and had Matt kidnapped and left in a building that was set to be demolished. Matt was rescued, but Graham had drugs planted to discredit Matt’s version of events. Sarah, by then pregnant with Graham’s child, became suspicious of him. After she gave birth to their son, Graham snapped and admitted his guilt. He suffered an aneurysm and died. Sarah named their son William, after her father. Though Alex blamed her for Graham’s death and considered challenging her for custody, they were able to make peace.

Sarah nevertheless felt guilty over how her marriage to Graham had played out, and she continued to fight her feelings for Matt. Eventually, however, they reunited and remarried. She was devastated when her half-brother and father were murdered by the Footprint Killer, who turned out to be Philip Ragan. When Paula shot Philip dead and then fainted, she blocked out the incident — so Molly took the blame for it. Sarah was roped into helping with the cover-up, and someone began blackmailing her with security footage of Paula pulling the trigger. Sarah managed to outsmart the blackmailer, a young man named Zane Tanaka, and thought she’d neutralized him for good.

But Zane soon got close to Sarah and Matt’s daughter, Tori, who fell for him. Sarah found herself in an impossible position and finally paid Zane the $100,000 he had wanted — on the condition that he leave Tori for good. He did… for a time. When Zane returned and got back together with Tori, Sarah exposed the blackmail scheme. Humiliated, Tori broke it off with Zane but also resented Sarah for lying to her. Sarah and Matt discovered that Tori was pregnant and feared she would reunite with Zane. They tried to convince her to place the child for adoption, and Matt impulsively deleted a text message from Zane so that Tori would think he wanted to put the baby up for adoption, too. When Tori found out, she fled and wound up in a car accident that killed her unborn baby. She blamed both her parents for their deception and reunited with Zane. Sarah and Matt were determined to win back their daughter.
