SUMMARY

When Travis and Elly ran away to Los Angeles, runaway teen Tempest stole Elly’s purse. They ran into her again and tried to get the purse back, just as the police showed up. All three were about to be in big trouble when Travis and Elly’s parents caught up to them. Claire gave Tempest her number and told her to call if she needed anything. Months later, Claire was shocked to receive a call from Tempest, who had apparently hitchhiked all the way to Washington state. Claire took Tempest into her home, and the two have grown close.

Tempest was tutored for her GED exam by Samantha Fisher, and in her excitement over passing the test, Tempest kissed a surprised Samantha. Sam insisted she isn’t interested in girls and pushed Tempest away for a time. Tempest met a girl named Annie, a hockey player at the rink where she works, and they hit it off. They dated for a year, and when Annie broke up with her, Tempest finally came out to Claire as a lesbian. However, she continued to dodge the subject of her biological family or why she ran away from home.

Samantha eventually admitted her feelings for Tempest, and they began dating. Tempest was stunned when her mother, Yvette Banks, showed up in King’s Bay pregnant. She was resentful toward Yvette and dubious of her intentions, but she was pleased when Yvette agreed to consider giving up the baby for adoption. However, Yvette was involved in a car accident and soon afterward died of complications; a twisted-up Tempest decided that she wanted to raise her new baby brother herself. Samantha’s mother, Diane, was concerned that Samantha would throw away her future to help Tempest parent, and she pushed for Alex Marshall and Trevor Brooks to adopt the baby. Diane even located the child’s father and brought him to town to make the decision, and when Tempest saw the man, she was horrified, for he’d abused her as a child. Alex and Trevor adopted the baby, whom they named Chase, and an emotional Tempest blamed Diane. She uncovered the fact that Diane had sexually assaulted Tim in order to conceive Samantha and exposed this fact, which devastated Samantha. In addition to rejecting her mom, Samantha broke up with Tempest.

While trying to focus on her job and on taking business classes at King’s Bay University, Tempest hoped for a reconciliation with Samantha. She thought she was making headway and was upset to learn that Sam had begun seeing Jaq Pearson. Samantha and Tempest remained drawn to one another, and Jaq began receiving threatening letters. Signs pointed to Tempest as the sender, and she was eventually arrested. However, Diane figured out that Jaq was planting the notes themself in order to frame Tempest. Tempest’s name was cleared, and after Samantha spent time in a coma following a harrowing car accident, the two reunited. Tempest was also surprised when her brother, Isaac, showed up in King’s Bay and became involved with Diane, but she eventually accepted both Isaac (whom she had blamed for abandoning her when he left home) and his involvement with Diane.
