SUMMARY
Sarah became pregnant after a one-night stand with friend Matt, but tried to pass the child off as her husband, Brent’s. After she gave birth to Victoria, she came clean. Matt and Sarah bonded over their daughter and shared custody, and later, they were married. Tori hoped for a younger sibling and was devastated when Sarah suffered a miscarriage in 2007. As a teen, Tori showed herself to be bubbly, outgoing, and highly social — sometimes to the point of being cruel to others.
She began attending King’s Bay University, but her social status took a hit after her friend, Fee C., hooked up with Ian, a guy Tori was dating. Soon afterward, Tori developed a crush on much older Philip Ragan — who had been involved with her aunt, Molly. She convinced herself that they’d be together, but her efforts to seduce him went terribly wrong when Tori discovered evidence that Philip was the Footprint Killer. Desperate to silence her, he attacked her and left her for dead. Tori survived but lingered in a coma. When Philip again tried to kill her, Tori’s grandfather, Bill, intervened but was killed in the process.
Tori was rocked when she awoke and learned everything that had happened. She took time off from school as she recovered and found herself feeling isolated. When Zane Tanaka showed interest in her, she was thrilled and dove into a relationship — unaware that he’d targeted her in order to stick it to her mother, whom he was blackmailing. Sarah was furious and paid Zane the $100,000 he wanted to leave Tori alone, but when he ignored their deal and reunited with Tori, Sarah came clean about everything. Upset, Tori dumped Zane and rejected her mother. She went to stay with her cousin, Travis, and his roommate, Landon, developed a crush on Tori, though she was oblivious to it.
She soon discovered that she was pregnant with Zane’s baby. Despite considering an abortion, she couldn’t go through with it, and when her parents stepped up to support her, she moved back home. But they became concerned that Zane was trying to use the baby to get Tori to reunite with him and pushed her to place the child for adoption. Matt intercepted a text from Zane to Tori, an act that made her think Zane didn’t want the baby, so she signed the adoption papers. When she overheard Matt saying what he’d done, she raged at him and stormed out. Her cousin, Marcus, was driving her to Zane’s when they got into a car accident that left Marcus with serious injuries and caused Tori to lose the baby. In her grief, she pushed her family away and reunited with Zane. They named their late daughter Chiyo, after Zane’s grandmother, and Tori clung to Zane as she tried to figure out her next steps in life.
Tori took a job as assistant to her aunt Molly, the creative head of Objection Designs, and Zane disapproved of her working with a family member. He was pleased when Molly was placed on leave, which cost Tori her job, as well. Zane continued trying to isolate Tori from her family and friends, and he became especially jealous of her friendship with Landon Esco. Tori agreed to marry Zane, but she discovered the tracker he’d placed on her car as they ran off to elope and was horrified to realize how badly he was trying to control her. Zane knocked her out and kidnapped her, and Tori eventually escaped from him before he crashed into oncoming traffic. Zane was apprehended and, after Tori gave a powerful victim impact statement in court, he received the maximum sentence for his crimes. Tori moved back in with her parents and set about rebuilding her life. After many frustrating months of job-searching and temping, she accepted Matt’s offer to come work at the restaurant that he ran. While working there, she became concerned that a fellow employee, Lucy, might be involved in an abusive relationship. Tori’s concern for Lucy grew, even as Molly — now reinstated at Objection — rehired her as her assistant.
*In 2007, Tori’s age was accelerated for story purposes.
