SUMMARY

Juanita, a first-generation Puerto Rican-American, was a stay-at-home mother who raised two children, Rocio (Rosie) and Sebastian, while her husband, Manuel, worked outside the home. When Manuel was killed in a home invasion that was a result of Rosie’s relationship with a local drug dealer, Diego Barrera, Juanita was devastated. She and Rosie became estranged, as Rosie pursued a career in law enforcement out of a need to find justice. Years later, the dealer returned to Rosie’s life and threatened her family, forcing her to go see her mother to offer a warning. After Rosie confronted Barrera, who took his own life rather than face the consequences of his actions, she and Juanita began to mend their relationship. Juanita again embraced her daughter and her relationship with Travis Fisher.
