SUMMARY

After Spencer Ragan was injured in a fall down the stairs, he moved in with his biological father, Tim, who arranged for in-home medical care and rehabilitation. Sonja arrived to interview for the job, having been sent by a mysterious boss with an agenda. While aiding Spencer with his physical recovery, Sonja also set up a white-noise machine that fed him subliminal messages intended to keep him from recovering his memory of the fall. She also grew closer to Tim and developed feelings for him. Sonja believed that her secret boss was Loretta Ragan, but it was actually Natalie Bishop, who was desperate to keep Spencer from remembering that he had fathered her baby. Unaware of the truth, Sonja flew across the country to visit Loretta in prison — which piqued the crime boss’s interest and led to her discovering what Natalie was up to. Keeping this information to herself, Loretta nevertheless blackmailed Sonja into revealing the paternity of the child in question during Natalie’s wedding to Jason Fisher. She then threatened to ruin Sonja’s career by exposing her additional duties and forced Sonja to leave town. Although it pained her, Sonja felt she had no choice and abruptly broke up with Tim and fled King’s Bay… but not before taking a home pregnancy test.

In 2021, Tim became desperate to track down Sonja, convinced that she could be the key to putting Loretta back in jail. He and his ex-wife, Claire, traveled to Hawaii to find her, but she refused to talk to them. When Claire went back in hopes of changing Sonja’s mind, she was shocked to see Sonja with a child she called TJ. Claire told Tim about this, but by the time they returned to Sonja’s home, she had skipped town with the boy. In 2022, Tim tracked Sonja to Arizona and got her to admit that TJ is his son. Sonja, still believing that Loretta was her mysterious boss from all those years ago, had been living on the run, but she agreed to come back to King’s Bay so that TJ could know his father. With the help of the KBPD, Tim arranged for the pair to live in a safehouse to keep Loretta from discovering that they were in town again. However, Natalie — fearful that Sonja could expose her past misdeeds — got to Sonja and implied that Loretta was coming after her, and Sonja skipped town with TJ again.

They remained on the run until Landon and Tori tracked them down and revealed that Loretta had been murdered. Relieved, Sonja brought her son back to town. She and Tim were horrified when TJ was diagnosed with aplastic anemia and required a bone marrow transplant, which Samantha was able to provide. As the boy recovered, Natalie ingratiated herself into Sonja’s life, and the two formed a friendship. Feeling guilty for the havoc she had caused Sonja, Natalie even set Sonja up with her ex, Conrad Halston. Sonja fell for the attorney, and they began a relationship. However, Rosie Jimenez discovered that it was Sonja who had poisoned Loretta. Sonja confessed that she had known about TJ’s health troubles while on the run and snuck back into town to kill Loretta so that it would be safe for her and TJ to return and pursue the bone marrow transplant. Sonja was arrested, and a heartbroken Conrad ended their relationship.
