SUMMARY

As an infant, Sophie was kidnapped on the morning of her parents’ wedding. Though she was rescued, tragedy struck after the wedding ceremony, when Sophie’s mother, Courtney, was brutally murdered by the unhinged Shannon Parish. Courtney’s parents, Helen and Don Chase, feared that their grieving son-in-law might be unfit to parent and launched a custody challenge. Helen hired shady lawyer Eric Westin, who arranged a fake kidnapping to make Jason appear irresponsible — but the hired kidnapper turned the tables on them and demanded ransom. Sophie was safely recovered, but Helen and Eric were arrested, and Jason retained custody. He later opted to have the charges against Helen dropped for Sophie’s sake.

Feisty, oddball Sophie grew up the only child of a single father — until Jason became engaged to Natalie Bishop, who moved in with her daughter, Bree, and then gave birth to a baby boy named Peter, whom everyone believed was Jason’s. On Jason and Natalie’s wedding day, it came out that Jason was not actually Peter’s father, and the couple split, once again tearing apart Sophie’s home life. She developed a morbid interest in such subjects as the Footprint Killer, a serial killer who terrorized King’s Bay.

In 2020, Sophie went to summer camp and returned as a 14-year-old high school freshman.
