Previously…
– Jason called off his wedding to Natalie after the revelation that Peter is not his biological child, but Spencerâs.
– Faced with threats that Loretta would reveal their secret alliance, Sonja was forced to read the paternity results aloud at the wedding.
– Tim told Sonja that he was uncertain about a future with her after what happened at his brotherâs wedding.

The score to a movie that Natalie Bishop canât quite place assaults her as soon as she walks into Edge of Winter Arena. She is careful to ease the door closed behind herself, aware that when left to its own devices, it will slam and announce her arrival to everyone present. Out on the ice, she sees a girl with a single long braid running through her program and approaching the corner of the rink, most likely setting up for a double Lutz. Natalie scans the ice surface quickly before spotting the person for whom she is looking.
With only two minutes remaining in the morningâs last freestyle session, Natalie makes her way around the end of the rink so that she will be near where the skaters step off the ice. She is waiting there when Bree Halston skates up to the door and grabs her blade guards from the railing. Bree is stepping off the ice when she notices her mother.
Natalie wastes no more time in approaching.
âHave a good practice?â she asks.
Bree glances around nervously, as if fearful that someone will overhear. âWhat are you doing here?”
âI needed to see you. You havenât returned any of my calls or texts. Iâve been worried sick.”
âDad said he told you that Iâm fine.”
âHe did,â Natalie admits, âbut it isnât the same.â She can feel the aggression emanating off Bree as the teenager pulls the plastic guards over her blades. âCan we talk?”
âThereâs nothing to talk about,â Bree says, avoiding eye contact.
âThat isnât true. I owe you a serious apology, for starters.”
That gets Breeâs attention enough so that she meets her motherâs eyes and then walks right past her, only turning back once she is near the skate rental counter. She folds her arms in front of her pink spandex tank top and waits.
Taking the cue, Natalie hurries after her.
âI screwed up,â Natalie says, careful to keep her voice down. Embarrassing Bree is not going to do her any favors right now. âI take full responsibility for that. I got myself into a terrible situation, and I made some bad choices in how I dealt with it.”
âBad choices?â Bree parrots, jutting her neck forward. âYou ruined our lives.”
âI did not–â Natalie stops herself, even though sheâd love to defend herself. But that isnât going to win her any points with Bree. âOur lives arenât ruined. I know it might feel that way, but it isnât true. Jason loves you, regardless of what happens between him and me. And Peter is still your brother.”
âWhat about Sophie? Weâve basically been sisters for the last few years, and nowâŚâ Bree stops as she becomes choked up.
âYou and Sophie can still have a relationship. No one should blame you for my mistakes. I know Jason wonât.”
Bree stares at the scuffed toes of her white skates. âIt isnât the same. We were a family.”
âIâm sorry, Bree. I am.â Natalie knew that it would be painful to see her daughter in this kind of agony, but she underestimated just how much; she has been telling herself that she would be able to smooth things over as soon as they came face-to-face.
âHow could⌠you and Spencer?â Bree asks quietly.
âIt happened the way I explained. Jason had broken up with me, and I didnât know who Spencer was. We didnât know until much, much later.”
âAnd then youâŚâ Bree pauses as another skater, oblivious to the seriousness of their conversation, passes by. âDid you really try to hurt him?”
âNo,â Natalie answers sharply. âAbsolutely not. His fall was an accident.”
âBut you left him there.”
âIâŚâ
She knows that there is no clean excuse for what happened that day. She panicked and left Spencer lying there. She still doesnât know what might have happened had Sabrina not come over and called for help, and she doesnât like thinking about it too much because of where the train of thought takes her.
âI canât change the choices I made back then,â she finally continues, âbut I can take responsibility now. Whatever else happens, you and Peter are my priorities. Youâre my children, and I love you, and your well-being comes before everything else.”
At last, Bree looks up at her again. Her doll-like blue eyes are filled with sadness and uncertainty.
âIf for nothing else, then for Peterâs sake,â Natalie says, âplease try and accept my apology. Please donât cut me out of your life.”

âItâs been forever since I was here,â Claire Fisher says as she follows her ex-husbandâs winding path through the rows of cubicles of Vision Publishing. âI bet I could still find my way around, though.”
âThereâs plenty that hasnât changed,â Tim Fisher, leading the way, says over his shoulder. âSometimes I forget that itâs been so many years.”
He stops at an open door, one with his name embossed on a gray plate on the wall beside it.
âAnd then some things really have changed,â Claire observes as she steps inside the corner office. âSomeoneâs moved up in the world.”
Tim smiles and folds his hands together. âI canât complain on that front.”
Claire walks over to the windows and surveys the Kingâs Bay streets down below. She nods approvingly at the view.
âThanks for stopping by,â Tim says as he closes the door.
âI thought it would be good for us to talk and get on the same page. Besides, I donât want to prod Spencer too much, but Iâve been wondering⌔
âIâm not sure if he told you this, but he already found a house.”
âHe did?”
âYeah.â Tim gestures for her to take a seat and moves around the other side of the desk. âItâs only about two miles from my parentsâ place, actually.”
As she lowers herself into the chair, she says, âI hope itâs a little more child-friendly than his last house.”
âNo kidding. He assures me thereâs a railing on the staircase, so thatâs an instant upgrade.”
âSmall wonders. How is he? Do you have a sense of what heâs thinking? I got the impression that heâs still in shock.”
âThereâs definitely a bit of that. But he says he wants to be a father to Peter.”
Claire leans forward, placing her elbows on the desk. âCan you believe that weâre grandparents? Thatâs crazy, isnât it?”
âCrazy doesnât even begin to describe it. Maybe itâs always weird. But the fact that we didnât have any build-up or prep time⌔
âItâs really weird. Especially since we have this grandson who weâve met but havenât ever looked at as ours.”
âI know,â Tim agrees. âI havenât wanted to push it, but Iâm dying to spend time with Peter.”
âSame. Natalie canât keep him away forever, can she? First of all, Jason has legal rights–”
âHeâs on top of that. I think he still isnât sure how to feel.”
âPoor guy. Heâs been through so much.â She shakes her head sadly. âHe doesnât deserve this. I know how much he loves Peter.”
âHeâs heartbroken. Even more so over Peter than over Natalie, I think.”
âThis all seems so surreal, still. But at least we know the truth now.”
âI shudder to think of what a mess this is going to become,â Tim says. âSpencer thought he had a lawyer lined up, but it turned out someone else at the same firm had already agreed to represent Natalie, so heâs still searching.”
âIâm sure I can find him someone through the hospital.”
âI think heâd really appreciate that.”
âIâd rather we be the ones to help him than Loretta,â Claire says. âI could kill that woman for outing this the way that she did. To do it that publicly — to hurt that many people–”
âThatâs Loretta Ragan for you.”
âEven Sonja. Why would Loretta even care about torturing her? She helped Spencer recover.”
Tim fiddles with his tie as he hesitates.
âWhat?â Claire asks, inching forward again.
âSonja told me that Loretta approached her a while back,â he says, âor someone did on Lorettaâs behalf. She wanted to pay Sonja to relay information about Spencer — and God knows what else — back to her.”
âI assume Sonja said no.”
âShe did, but apparently that was enough to put her in Lorettaâs crosshairs, too.”
âI bet she didnât know she was signing up for that when she took the job caring for Spencer.”
âNo,â Tim says, âbut thereâs this part of me that wishes she had told me back when it happened. Maybe itâs irrational, but if we had known, maybe we couldâve headed this off somehow.”
âHow?â Claire asks.
âI donât know. But itâs the kind of thing she should have told me, especially once I opened up to her about everything Loretta and Nick put our family through. I donât know if I can forgive her for that.”
âReally?”
âItâs illogical, I know. But Iâm worried that Iâm going to resent her because of what happened at the wedding.â He pauses before adding, âI donât know if I can move forward with Sonja after all this.”
—–
Despite it only being late morning, Sonja Kahele is already weary as she walks out of the drugstore just outside Kingâs Bay compact downtown. She has been sleeping horribly ever since the dramatic reveal at Jason and Natalieâs wedding, followed by Timâs explanation that he needed some time apart. She wishes that she had a new nursing assignment by now so that she might have something to distract her during the days.
She makes it only a few steps past the exit when she sees a familiar figure striding toward her. Spencer Ragan walks with the slightest of limps, but it is remarkable to her how much he has improve since she began overseeing his rehabilitation. For the umpteenth time, she feels a sharp, sudden pang of guilt at the recollection of how she conspired to keep his memory from returning — though that has at least been resolved, with no one being the wiser.
Sonja stops and lifts one hand in a meek wave. Spencer slows as he approaches.
âHi, Spencer,â she says.
He regards her with dark, impenetrable eyes.
âHey,â he finally replies.
âI just want to say how sorry I am for what happened at the wedding. I had absolutely no idea what I was reading until, well, I read it. And then it was too late. If I had known…”
âItâs okay,â Spencer jumps in as soon as she pauses to find her next words. âThatâs the kind of sick thing my mother has been doing to people for years. Tim told that she tried to hire you.”
âHe did?â Sonja gulps. If Spencer were to talk with Loretta, and if she were to reveal the truth about her deal with Sonja…
âYeah. Why wouldnât he?”
She squeezes her eyes closed and shakes her head. âI meant, I was expecting you to be upset with me. I canât imagine what youâve been going through.”
âIt probably isnât even the weirdest thing thatâs happened to me. And now that this is back–â He taps his head with his index finger. â–I remember everything that happened before I fell. I had just found out Peterâs my kid when I went down those stairs. So now it isnât as big of a shock.”
âThat makes sense,â Sonja says, âor as much sense as any of this could make. I donât want to keep you, though. I only wanted to let you know how sorry I am.”
âThanks,â he says. âI know you wouldnât ever do anything to hurt my dad or me. Youâre one of the rare people whoâs really just good.”
Sonja feels that agonizing stab of guilt all over again.
âI hope your father is able to see me that way again,â she says.
âHe will. Iâd bet on it. I think heâs pretty thrown by everything, but when that calms down, so will he.”
She offers him a grateful smile. âThanks for saying that. Iâm glad youâre doing okay, Spencer. And I hope Iâll see you soon.”
âSame,â he says before disappearing into the store.
The inside of Sonjaâs head feels like a pinball machine, one thing ramming into another and then flying off in some arbitrary new direction, as she hurries to her car. She is buckling her seatbelt when she hears her cell phone ringing inside her purse.
The area code on the caller ID immediately unsettles her, even though she does not know the number itself. As much as she wants to stuff the phone back into her purse and ignore the call, she knows that will only make things worse. With a shaky hand, she instead answers and lifts the phone to her face.
âHello?”
—–
Natalie watches her daughter with baited breath. But before Bree can answer, a too-familiar voice cuts through the air. The sound of it makes Natalieâs heart jump.
âEverything okay over here?â Jason Fisher asks as he walks purposefully over the cement floor.
âWeâre just talking,â Natalie says. âItâs fine.”
âIs it fine with you, Bree?â he asks.
The teenager hesitates.
âIâm not committing a crime by trying to have a conversation with my daughter,â Natalie says.
Jason stares at her with visible disdain. âThe nerve you have, coming here⌔
âI knew sheâd be finishing up practice. I need to talk with her.”
Bree scans the area around them with discomfort.
âCan we do it some other time?â she asks. âI donât want anyone else to hear us.”
âThen we can go somewhere quiet,â Natalie says.
âWhy donât you give Bree some space?â Jason says.
Natalie shoots him an irritated look.
âYeah, letâs do that,â Bree says, and she moves quickly for the locker room.
Natalieâs muscles flinch to go after her, but Jason tells her, âLet her go.”
Taking in a deep breath through her nose, Natalie again turns to face him.
âIâm trying to clean up the mess Iâve made,â she says. âI know there are some things I canât change–”
âAnd you canât bully Bree into being ready to forgive you, either.”
âIâm not trying to bully her.”
âYouâre trying to make everything go your way — the same as you did with me and with Peter and with Spencer,â Jason says. âYou were determined to get the result you wanted, facts be damned.”
âBecause I love you,â she says forcefully.
âYou donât love anyone but yourself, Natalie.”
She sets her jaw, shocked all over again that this kind, funny man could now feel so much ire toward her. Itâs as if he is a stranger.
âI love my children, and you know thatâs the truth,â she says. But he refuses to give her even that much, responding instead with a stony glare.
âWhen do you want to see Peter?â she asks.
âI donât know. I⌠Now. All the time. But then I think that I shouldnât, because itâs going to be too hard to let go⌠but if I donât see him, heâs going to wonder where I went, and–”
âHeâs been asking for you nonstop. He misses you. Getting used to this is going to be hard.”
âThis shouldnât even be something he has to get used to!â Jason snaps, as his voice leaps up to a less-than-private volume.
âYouâre the one who called off the wedding. You could have married me and been Peterâs father.”
âExcept Iâm not! Iâm not. No amount of pretending or visiting with him is going to change that. Will you get that through your head?”
âJason–”
He throws up his hands. âIâm done. Iâm not debating this with you.”
âDonât punish Peter for something I did,â she says.
âIâm not. Please, just go.”
Natalie doesnât budge.
âNatalie–”
âI am so sorry for how I handled things,â she tells him. âI will never stop being sorry for it.”
âGood. Because maybe youâll finally learn how consequences work.”
Without waiting for her to respond, Jason turns and walks back to the stairs that lead up to his office on the second floor. Natalie lets out a frustrated huff as she balls her fists.
âYou arenât getting rid of me that easily,â she mutters. âNeither of you.”
—–
âYou canât be serious,â Claire says to Tim over the large, black desk. But his expression makes it clear that he isnât kidding or exaggerating.
Claire sits back in her chair, her voice softening with understanding. âYou really donât think you can trust her.”
âIt isnât that I think I canât trust her,â Tim says. âItâs that I feel like I canât. Iâm sure itâs irrational, but–”
âBut itâs how you feel. I donât blame you. After everything you were put through by my father, and Nick, and Loretta, it makes sense. They tortured us. You lost years.”
âAnd then there was Cassandra. I thought I was getting back to normal, moving on, and then she turned out to be lying to me, too. I never wouldâve forgiven myself if Samantha and Tempest had gotten seriously hurt because of all that.”
âWhat Cassandra and her crazy ex did was not your fault,â Claire says, âjust like what Loretta pulled at the wedding isnât Sonjaâs fault. Weâve all been manipulated by that maniac.”
âI know,â Tim says with an emphatic nod of his head. âI do. Itâs still tough to tell whether Iâd be making a mistake by trusting her.”
Claire folds her hands in her lap as she sits up straighter. âAnswer one question for me.”
âWhatâs that?”
âCould you see yourself with Sonja down the road?”
He pauses only long enough to bite his lower lip. âYes. Or I could, before this–”
âThereâs your answer,â she says.
âIndecision?”
âNo. The first thought you had when I asked you that was âyes.â The qualifier came after that. You want to be with her.”
He sighs. âI do. I just donât know if itâs the right decision.”
âWhen you feel like that about someone, you take that leap of faith,â Claire says. âSonja has given you no reason to think that sheâs anything but trustworthy. Remember that.”
âYouâre right.â He sets his palms down flat on the desk. âIâve put my life on hold for way too long because Iâve been scared of making the wrong choice. But I guess you never know whatâs right or wrong until you actually do it.”
âThatâs the spirit. Besides, youâre a grandfather now. You might not have that many good years left.”
Tim laughs. âThanks for the advice, Grandma.”
—–
âSonja,â the caller says brusquely.
âMrs. Ragan.â Sonja feels a fresh spike of panic in her gut. âWhy are you calling me? How are you calling me?”
âIf you think Iâm incapable of procuring a cell phone in prison,â Loretta Ragan responds, âthen itâs frightening how badly youâve underestimated me.”
âI didnât mean–”
âAs for the why, itâs because we have some unfinished business.”
Sonja looks out the driverâs side window, at the shoppers going about their perfectly normal days in their perfectly normal lives. She silently curses the day she ever took the call from someone on Lorettaâs payroll, offering her a special — and very lucrative â home-care job.
âI did exactly what you asked,â Sonja says. âI read those test results at the wedding. Spencer knows Natalieâs son is his now. You got what you wanted.”
âAnd now itâs time for you to get what you wanted.”
Sonjaâs head spins with confusion. âMrs. Ragan, all I want is to go back to my life–”
âThatâs exactly what youâll be able to do — as soon as you complete one last assignment.”
âWhat? You said that was it. You canât make me do anything else.”
âI suppose not,â Loretta says. âAlthough you canât make me refrain from explaining to the authorities how you brainwashed a patient for some extra spending money.”
âYou wouldnât do that.”
âYou really have underestimated me, Sonja. If I were you, Iâd think long and hard before refusing to complete your work for me. Iâm sure your ill, fragile mother would advise you to do the same.”
Sonja cringes at the thinly veiled threat against her mother.
âWhat is it?â she asks through gritted teeth. âWhatâs the assignment?”
She can practically hear Lorettaâs grin through the phone. âI knew youâd come around.”
END OFÂ EPISODE 941
What is Loretta going to make Sonja do now?
What did you think of Claireâs advice to Tim?
What is Natalieâs next move going to be?
Discuss this episode and more in the comments below!
I loved the scenes with Tim & Claire; after everything they’ve been through together, it is nice that they are so close. And, I loved how they were startled by the fact that they are instant grandparents. It felt very true to the situation. I do feel bad for Sonja too; Loretta has her wrapped around her finger. Everyone knows that you really can’t say no to Loretta! Seems like Tim can’t catch a break when it comes to his love life …
I’m curious to see how the movie premiere plays out. I know that something is bound to happen when Alex comes face to face with Liam — but he IS happy with Trevor and the baby, but sometimes things just happen.
I have a feeling that whatever is going on with Henry will end up bringing Diane, Claudia and Natalie together again and it will start the process of people forgiving Natalie for what she has done. I don’t blame Jason and Bree for being cold to Natalie right now as she did a lot of lying to everyone. But it is a soap opera, people can only stay mad at one another for so long … right?
Great couple of episodes! Looking forward to the next one,
Dallas
Thanks for your post, Dallas! I thought I had responded to this but had actually just copied-and-pasted it into a notes document, oops đ
I had two completely separate notes in my plans for upcoming episodes. One was that Tim talks to someone about his issues with Sonja, and the other was Tim/Claire talking about becoming grandparents. Neither scene was really working for me, in terms of having any interesting character perspective, until I realized I should combine them and make Claire be the one Tim spoke with. Funny how it added a dimension to the scenes that made them come alive. That’s one of my favorite things about having all this history to play with.
Alex is definitely happy in his home life, but that doesn’t mean everything will be smooth-sailing. Liam has proven himself to be spiteful in the past (not that it was all unwarranted), so you aren’t wrong to be concerned about how that encounter might go.
Natalie has a long way to go before people forgive her, but yeah — dynamics like that can turn surprisingly fast, especially once there’s a new circumstance to contend with. It’s been important to me to play those ‘in-between’ moments of the fallout, where no one is really sure what to do or how to act, before they move on to more decisive action. That tends to be how things go IRL, too.
Thanks again!
I love what you guys are up too. This type of clever work and
coverage! Keep up the terrific works guys I’ve included you guys to my own blogroll.
Definitely believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the
