2021 Preview

It’s the dawn of a new year, and it once again appears that it’ll be a complicated one for the people of King’s Bay. As 2021 plays out, several smaller plot threads will converge into umbrella storylines, entangling the Fishers and their loved ones (and some not-so-loved ones) in new and surprising ways…

Oh, Baby, Baby: Travis and Rosie have taken on the monumental task of fostering the baby girl who was abandoned outside the KBPD. It’s an experience that could bring them even closer… or test their relationship as never before. And even as they grow to care for the little girl, Rosie has a professional and ethical obligation to do everything she can to find out where the baby came from and who left her outside the station. Meanwhile, Molly and Brent are on the uncertain precipice of reconciliation, and the news about this child — while they’re mourning the baby they think they lost during birth — will stir emotions in them that could very well push one or both of them to rash action. Of course, we also have Loretta watching from the sidelines, pleased at the pain that she’s caused the woman whom she blames for Philip’s breakdown. What will happen when Loretta learns that her revenge plot didn’t go quite as she thought?

The Takedown: Tim recognizes Loretta as a very real threat to his family and doesn’t think there’s any more time to waste in neutralizing her, but he has no idea that she’s already set a plan in motion. Claire, who very much wants to move past her heartbreak over Brent, decides to help him out, but their primary lead will take the former spouses on an unexpected diversion. Spencer remains convinced that Loretta’s blackmail of Elly could be the key to getting the woman who raised him out of his house before she can do more damage, and now that Natalie has put an end to their spouses-of-convenience-with-benefits arrangement, he turns his sights back to Elly… and assumes that helping her with Loretta is the key to winning her heart, when it just might put her and everything she’s worked for in dire jeopardy.

I Object: Just as she’s settling into her job as Molly’s assistant, Tori hits a major speed bump at work — something that once again threatens to pit Molly and Sarah against each other. A frustrated Tori will lean on Zane for support, while Landon begins to view himself as Tori’s only hope of being rescued. This budding romantic triangle and unexpected professional drama start to become a much more far-reaching mystery tale that ropes in a lot of characters from different parts of the canvas.

Head Versus Heart: As Isaac puts down more permanent roots in King’s Bay, Diane fights her attraction to the younger man, fearing that it could once again blow up the life she’s worked so hard to put back together. For the time being, Tempest remains unaware of her brother’s connection to Diane — but will that last after Tempest is accused of something shocking and needs her brother’s support? At the same time, Samantha and Jaq are getting much more serious in their relationship, but the secret that Diane and Jaq worked together to keep Sam and Tempest from reuniting begins to float to the surface…

Around King’s Bay: Jason and Sabrina have embarked upon a relationship, but the now-teenaged Sophie is going to have some major opinions about her dad’s love life… Finn continues to insert himself into Trevor’s life (and, by extension, Alex’s), but his motives aren’t exactly clear… A lopsided Christian/Marcus/Bree triangle has been brewing and solidifies even more, while Christian’s twin, Caleb, gets more and more wrapped up with troublemaking Jasmine — but these two slice-of-life teen stories are on a collision course headed for something much bigger.

What do you hope to see in the coming year? What are you most excited about from the previews above? Sound off in the comments!

  1. I think I have been vocal about how excited I am about the new teen set feeling a lot like that Jason/Courtney/Alex/Lauren set of early years so I am definitely excited to see where this all leads too. Especially since it’s been building forEVER. HAHA.

But I am way too excited for this whole Loretta reveal. I knew she had much more up her sleeve when she arrived back in town so see that she finally gets that focus wether it be through Tim/Claire investigation or through the Molly/Brent baby snatch I am so intrigued and excited to see that it’s going to be a huge umbrella storyline for everyone involved.

Also, I really hope that Diane can actually get herself a man and are we going to be seeing Isaac as a long term character? Or is he here to mend both Diane and Tempest in their own way? I really need to see some of these older characters get some much needed romance! Diane. Tim. Claire. Brent & Molly!!! These were the ones we really rooted for so long ago. I am glad to see Brent & Molly back in each other’s orbit and I am glad you’re not making it so easy for them with what they did to Claire!

Love the stories coming ahead Michael. Amazing job!

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting!

I’m excited about the teen set, too. I probably aged them a little too soon, as far as having space on the canvas to tell their stories, but I also like that they’ve gotten to become established as characters before stepping into major story. We’re definitely going to see them step into the spotlight more a 2021 goes on.

The Loretta thing is going to be a big, sprawling story. There are a few different legs of it, and they’ll all criss-cross and intertwine in what I hope are surprising ways. And part of that will be romance for the older/original characters! As you said, Molly and Brent are in a very tentative place right now, with feelings between them but a lot of grief and confusion. Tim hasn’t really dealt with his personal life since Sonja left, and Claire is still reeling from Brent’s betrayal, so they’ll each have to face their fears and desires as this Loretta thing plays out — and Diane/Isaac is going to be a big story thread, yeah. Isaac will become more established as a permanent presence in town, but of course it’s very complicated because of her tense history with Tempest.

      Thanks again!
