Episode 1307

Previously…
– Finn went to Trevor and Alex’s house to ask Trevor for a favor, but he was greeted by Sophie, who was there to babysit Chase. Sophie — whose “Shannon” persona is in control — found the encounter strange and recalled having seen Finn visiting Camille Lemieux’s grave.
– Trevor encouraged Samantha and Tempest to consider their upcoming wedding an act of protest.
– Spencer told Natalie that he plans to divorce her and asked Elly to represent him in the proceedings.

The bridal shop is all mirrors, fabric swatches, and voices talking over one another. Tori Gray emerges from behind a curtain, a tentative look on her face, and the regret takes hold as soon as she sees the reactions from the others.

“It’s an ‘absolutely not,’ right?” Tori asks.

Rosie Jimenez sits on a tufted ottoman. “You haven’t even looked in the mirror yet.”

“I don’t think I need to,” Tori says. “That massive bow on my butt…”

“This isn’t really a massive-bows-on-our-butts wedding, is it?” Bree Halston asks Samantha Fisher.

Samantha laughs and replies to her cousin, “I don’t think so, no.”

Tori disappears back into the dressing room.

“I’m sorry I can’t actually try anything on today,” Rosie tells Samantha. “By the time the wedding rolls around, I’m hoping to be a little more…” She rubs a hand over her very pregnant stomach. “…unencumbered. At least physically.”

“Your moral support is more than enough today,” Samantha says. “And I want all of you to feel good in whatever dress you wind up in, as long as they’re all part of the same color story. I wouldn’t just pick a random dress and assume you’d all feel good in it.”

“Thank you for that,” Bree says.

Trevor Brooks sets a garment bag down on a nearby armchair.

“How’s the suit?” Samantha asks.

“Fits like a glove,” Trevor says.

“Must be nice trying on this stuff when you’re a former model,” Tori calls out from the changing room.

“You were a model?” Bree asks Trevor.

“He was one of the very first Objection models ever,” Tori says, peeking her head out from behind the curtain.

“You know, you said you didn’t want a fussy wedding,” Rosie chimes in, “and yet you wound up with a model officiating the ceremony.”

“I’ll have you all know that Trevor earned this job because of his brains and his heart,” Samantha says. “He gave the most touching speech when we went out Pride weekend.”

Trevor shrugs. “I wouldn’t say it was a speech…”

“Well, you spoke very eloquently about how, for so long, people like us had to fight to stand in front of the people we love and make promises that everybody else gets to make automatically.”

“You’re gonna make me cry,” Rosie says. “Though it might be the hormones.”

Everyone laughs as Sophie Fisher steps out from another of the dressing cubicles, clad in a classic, flowy, sage green dress in an A-line cut.

“Okay, that’s a winner,” Samantha declares.

Sophie frowns. “Really? I don’t know. It’s so…” She walks over to the floor-length mirror. “Girly.”

“It looks really nice on you,” Samantha insists to her younger cousin.

Sophie continues studying herself in the mirror. Inside her head, a voice — the voice of her “Shannon persona” — reminds her to play it cool. The dress doesn’t look bad. It’s just not very… edgy. Or sexy.

“I dunno,” the teenager mutters at her reflection.

“It’s a very flattering cut,” Trevor says as he joins her at the mirror. “Classic. And it’s sort of dreamy. You’ll feel light and airy in it.”

Shannon contemplates this, twisting up Sophie’s face in the mirror as she does so.

“Hey,” she says abruptly. “Did Finn ever get that recommendation from you?”

Trevor reacts with visible surprise. “How did you know about that?”

“He stopped by when I was watching Chase. I thought it was weird.”

“Oh.” For just a second, Trevor hesitates. “He texted me about it. I filled out the form. Not a big deal.”

“Didn’t he kind of leave Objection in, like, a huge flame-out?” Shannon questions. “He tried to drive Aunt Molly out of her own company.”

“Well…” Trevor’s discomfort is apparent. “He did solid work while he was there. And he’s renting my family’s house. I’d prefer for him to have income, you know?”

“Makes sense. Better hope he doesn’t try to stage a coup at this new company.”

Trevor cracks an uneasy grin. “As long as he can pay the rent, it isn’t my business.”

“Hmm. Okay.”

“I need to get going,” he says. “Thanks again for babysitting Chase. He had fun with you.”

Yeah, because I gave him unlimited screen time, she thinks, but outwardly all she offers him is a bland smile. As Trevor says his goodbyes to the others, she stands in front of the mirror, her mind racing.

Something about the entire situation with Finn is strange. She isn’t quite sure what it all adds up to, but she has learned to trust her instincts when people start acting nervous around simple questions.

—–

Peter Ragan’s bedroom door stands half-open. Inside, the boy sits cross-legged on the floor in front of the flatscreen TV, headset on and controller in hand.

“Behind you, behind you–“

He frantically mashes some buttons.

“That’s cheating!”

Spencer Ragan knocks lightly on the doorframe.

“Hey, Peter,” he says. “Your mom and I need a minute.”

Peter glances over his shoulder, surprised to see both of his parents standing there. “I didn’t do it. Whatever it is.”

Natalie Bishop folds her arms. “You aren’t in trouble… but is there anything we should know about?”

“No,” Peter says. “You guys just seem so serious.”

“We just need to talk to you,” Natalie says as she seats herself on the edge of the full-size bed.

Peter pauses the game and removes his headset. The room suddenly feels much quieter. Spencer and Natalie exchange a look.

“You guys are acting weird,” the boy says.

Natalie exhales slowly. “We need to tell you something.”

Peter looks between them. Finally Spencer claps his hands together.

“Your mother and I — we’ve decided that we’re going to start living separately.”

Peter blinks. “So you’re getting divorced.”

Spencer nods once. “Yes.”

“We both still love you as much as ever,” Natalie says, leaning forward. “That will never change.”

“Right,” Spencer adds immediately.

Peter flicks his finger against the side of the headset. Then: “So where am I gonna live?”

“You’re going to spend time with both of us,” Natalie says, moving swiftly to the next prepared talking point. Spencer notices the slightly odd cadence of her voice, a little slower and more robotic than usual, betraying how uncomfortable she is.

“But your room is staying right here,” he hastens to add.

Looking up, Peter asks, “It is?”

“Absolutely.” Spencer smiles. “Your mother is staying here, so this is still your home.”

“What about you? Where are you going?” Peter suddenly sounds nervous.

“I found a condo in a building downtown. Top floor. They call it the penthouse.”

Natalie turns sharply toward Spencer. “You what?”

“And it’s only a 12-minute drive from here. I’ve timed it out already,” Spencer adds, as if Natalie hasn’t reacted at all.

Peter’s eyes widen. “Is it really fancy?”

“I don’t know about really fancy,” Spencer says, “but it is down by the waterfront. And it has a nice gym, and an even nicer pool.”

“There’s a pool?” Peter asks excitedly.

“You’ll have to try it out as soon as possible. And you already have a room in the condo. I was thinking we could go furniture shopping tomorrow. You can pick out everything. And a paint color.”

Spencer feels Natalie’s glare burning into him but pointedly ignores it.

Peter sucks in a breath. “Can I get a TV just like this one for gaming?”

“I’ll make sure you have the same one,” Spencer assures him.

“Do you have any other questions?” Natalie says, letting just a hint of bite creep into her voice.

“Nah,” Peter says as he reaches for the headset. “You guys don’t even sleep in the same room. I just don’t want to change schools or anything.”

He puts the headset back on and turns toward the TV. Again Spencer looks over at Natalie, surprised, but she is already off the bed and walking out of the room.

—–

As the buzzing inside the bridal shop continues, Samantha joins Sophie at the mirror.

“You know, for someone who hated that dress five minutes ago, you’ve spent an awful lot of time looking at it.”

Sophie’s shoulders shrug. “I don’t hate it.”

“High praise.”

“I just…” She tugs absently at the fabric. “It’s very pretty.”

Samantha waits. “And?”

“And pretty isn’t really my thing.”

“You do contain multitudes,” Samantha wisecracks.

“Did you read that on a mug at TJ Maxx or something?”

“Very funny.”

For a moment, both of them study Sophie’s reflection. Then Shannon turns the body toward her cousin.

“Can I ask you something weird?”

“Always.”

“What’s the deal with that Finn guy?”

“Finn Campbell?” Samantha furrows her brow. “How do you even know him?”

“He came by Trevor and Alex‘s house looking to get a job recommendation from Trevor.”

“Oh. That’s… I guess it’s good he’s trying to get a job. He’s been living in that house alone since Jaq left town.”

“Trevor seemed weird when I mentioned it. Like… cagey.”

“Cagey?”

“What?”

Samantha eyes her cousin. “Just not a word I thought I’d hear you use.”

Shannon feels a sharp spike of panic but does her best to keep it concealed. Warmth floods her cheeks, and Shannon silently curses Sophie’s tendency to blush at exactly the wrong moments.

“I saw it in a movie,” she says. “The point is, Trevor was acting weird, and I thought it was a weird favor for Finn to ask for in the first place, and… something’s weird about it all.”

Samantha gets a faraway look in her eyes for a moment. “You know… a while back, Finn showed up at Objection.”

“They let him in?”

“Trevor brought him in, I think. And they went straight to Trevor’s office.” She touches a hand to her forehead and rubs it back and forth. “Then I noticed Finn storm out a little while later. It looked tense, whatever it was.”

“Something weird is going on,” Shannon says. “Do you think Finn is, like, blackmailing Trevor?”

“That feels like a big leap,” Samantha says.

“There’s one more thing,” Shannon hastens to add. “Last year, I was visiting my mom‘s grave, and I saw Finn.”

“You what? At your mom’s grave?”

“No, but he was at the cemetery. And the grave he was near…”

Samantha folds her arms, waiting.

Camille Lemieux,” Shannon reveals. “The lady from…”

“Objection,” Samantha finishes for her. “Why would he be visiting her grave?”

“I don’t know. He seemed obsessed with that place, but…”

She trails off. Samantha catches her gaze in the floor-length mirror. Neither is quite sure what to say now. Because it isn’t one strange happening — it’s three. And three starts to feel like a pattern.

—–

Spencer catches up with Natalie when she is halfway down the stairs.

“I’d say that went well,” he remarks.

“You already have a condo?” she says. “What the hell?”

“Keep your voice down.”

She grunts, rolls her eyes, and marches the rest of the way down the stairs. Spencer tails her.

“What, you wanted approval?” he presses.

“You could’ve at least told me.”

“It’s a safe place for Peter. It doesn’t involve you beyond that.”

The words land harder than he intends. She stops and spins around, folding her arms.

“What is this, some kind of love nest for you and Elly?”

“Natalie–“

“Do you already have a drawer set aside for her tacky clothes? Or a separate walk-in closet, knowing you.”

He exhales through his nose. “Elly has nothing to do with this.”

“You said you loved her.”

“I– I do.” He does his best to shake off the unexpected accusation and the weight of his admission. “But this is about giving Peter a home. That’s all.”

“You’re in such a damn rush to get out of here,” she says, hurt creeping into the words.

“Why are we pretending this has been some long, loving marriage?” he fires back. “This was always an arrangement. And now I need out of this house. I see Loretta all over it–“

“You think I don’t?”

“She wasn’t your mother. And you’re the one who invited her to stay here, Natalie. Do you not want the house?”

She grits her teeth.

“I have no interest in spending the next two years fighting with you in court over this,” he says. “I’m giving you the house. I’m offering you a settlement that’s more than fair and child support. Between my inheritance, and what Philip left me, and Loretta’s estate… you and Peter have nothing to worry about. All I’m asking for is a clean break.”

Without even waiting for a response, he moves past her and into the kitchen. She stands alone in the silence of the foyer. Her eyes drift upward toward Peter’s room. The other guest room — it could become a place for Bree, now that Loretta is out of their lives.

“This is everything you ever wanted,” she says under her breath.

But it’s all balanced on a secret that could topple it in a minute, she remembers, thinking of Sonja‘s tone during their most recent visit. She seemed so ready to spill the beans and ruin it all without even realizing the power she holds.

Natalie closes her eyes. She cannot let that happen.

—–

“Camille Lemieux,” Samantha repeats quietly. “She was Aunt Molly’s mentor.”

“Why would Finn even know who she was?” Shannon asks.

“I mean, sometimes they mention her at Objection, but to go visit her grave…”

As Samantha’s thought tapers off, a voice cuts in from behind them: “Are you two talking about Finn Campbell?”

They turn. Rosie has wandered over from the seating area, one hand resting against her lower back as she does her best to get comfortable.

In the background, Tori emerges from the dressing room in another green dress entirely.

“Oh, come on,” she complains. “This one makes the bow look subtle.”

“It does not,” Samantha calls over automatically. Bree giggles and jumps up to evaluate the dress that Tori is wearing.

Rosie returns her attention to Samantha and Sophie.

“Sorry. Finn?”

“You know him?” Samantha asks.

Rosie lets out a small laugh. “I spent weeks thinking he might be the key to freeing Travis. Finn was the person–“

“–who was with Loretta when she died,” Samantha jumps in to finish the thought.

“He was all over the edges of the case,” Rosie continues. “I could never make the pieces fit — and I didn’t have to, because it turns out Sonja was the real answer — but it still feels like there’s something here that wants to lock into place.”

Samantha gives Sophie a sideways look. “Should we tell her?”

Shannon nods, and Samantha quickly recounts what the cousins have put together: Finn’s request of Trevor, that hushed closed-door meeting at Objection, and Finn’s appearance at Camille’s grave.

“Okay, now that’s extra-strange,” Rosie agrees. “As far as anyone knows, Finn didn’t know Camille.”

“Or did he?” Shannon posits.

Samantha shakes her head. “Camille’s been dead almost 20 years. I remember…” Her breath catches as that horrible day of Claire and Ryan‘s wedding, when Nick Moriani held the guests hostage at the Fisherman’s Pier. The grisly sight of Nick’s head being severed from his body after the explosion haunted Samantha for months, and sometimes, in the dark of night, the image that terrified her young mind still appears in a nightmare.

“Travis told me about that wedding,” Rosie says with a clipped nod.

Shannon scans both of the older women carefully, not quite understanding the context of their exchange but still grasping the severity.

“So Finn would’ve been a kid when Camille died,” she says. “Why would some lady who started a mid-level fashion company in King’s Bay, Washington, be so interesting to him?”

The trio stands silently for several seconds, frozen on the precipice of something, even though they cannot quite make out what it is.

“Finn wormed his way into that company and then made himself Gia Vincent‘s right-hand man when she took over,” Rosie thinks aloud. “And he had some connection to Loretta, I’d bet on it.”

“And how does Trevor fit into all this?” Samantha questions, a nervous edge to her voice.

“What I said before: blackmail,” Shannon says. “Finn might have something on him. He could be applying pressure.”

“But why? To what end?” Samantha counters. “What’s the end game here?”

“That’s the part I’m dying to figure out,” Rosie says. “There’s something here — and every instinct inside me is screaming that Finn is playing a long game we aren’t aware of.”

The moment breaks slightly as more laughter ripples through the shop. Now Bree is modeling the same dress for Tori. But across the room, in front of the full-length mirror, Rosie, Samantha, and Sophie stand in silent agreement: they need to figure out what is going on — and what Trevor has to do with it — before Finn can do any more damage.
